The product is Magic Jack and they sell it at all Radio Shack stores.

Please look at the two photos below. I just plug the small Magic Jack into my laptop USB port. The computer is connected to the internet and then I plug an ordinary phone into Magic Jack.

The phone thinks I am in Florida regardless of where I am (NY, CT or anywhere). I could be China, Australia, Brazil, or anywhere. The phone still acts as though I were in Florida. That means NO long distance domestic USA charges. I just dial the USA phone number such as 1-212-555-1234 and other person answers.

When you first step up Magic Jack it asks you what area you want for a local phone number.  Say Greenwich, CT and it will assign you a number in Greenwich or nearby.  People call you at the number Magic Assigns to you and the phone rings.

One hitch. Of course you computer must be turned on.

The cost is $40 the first year and $20 every year thereafter for UNLIMITED calls within the USA.

Also, if you need an extra phone line at home for the kids? Use Magic Jack, and they can talk all day long without occupying your regular land line and they will not be burning up their cell phone minutes.
